BILLY HOLIDAY IS THE GREATEST FEMALE JAZZ SINGER OF ALL TIME.
She was
born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 7 April 1915 with the name of Eleonora
Fagan Gough. She uses the stage name Billie Holiday from the combined name of her
idol actress Billie Dove and Clarence Holiday. She is also called as 'Lady
Day'. Billie is married to Johnie Monroe ended in divorce. Then she married
again with Joe Guy.

Billie was actually begun
singing career in 1930-1931. But Billie began to
attract attention in 1933 when jazz producer Mark Hammond brought Benny Goodman
to Billie's appearance. Then she joined to a small band led by Goodman and made
her debut on 27 November 1933 with the song Your Mother In Law Son. In the beginning
of 1935, she debuted in Apolli Theater and performing with Duke Ellington.
In 1938 the popular band
Artie Shaw Band signed Billie, and she became the first
black singer who became the lead vocalist of the
white band. After Billie out of the band she was a singer in a nightclub
with a rendition of ‘Strange Fruit’. That is song that became her first hit. In
1941, she released her second hit God Bless The Child and her third hits ‘Lover
Man’ was released in 1944. In 1947 Billie played with Louis
Armstrong film titled New Orleans.
Along with an increase
in her career, Billie became addicted to alcohol, marijuana, opium and heroin.
On May 31, 1959 she was rushed to hospital with heart and liver disease. He
died on July 17, 1959. This is the end of a famous female jazz singer.
