Joan Chen
is a Chinese actress who also managed to become
a Hollywood actress. She was born with the
original name of Chen Chong, born in Shanghai, China, on April 26, 1961. Chen
was born from a doctor’s family. Chen got her education at the Shanghai Film
Academy and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Languages in China. She has
been married twice and her second marriage with Peter Hui preserved until now and
had two children.
Chen started her career in acting since 1980an. She appeared in Xiao Hua
or The Little Flower in 1980 which made her
achieved a Hundred Flowers Film Awards. Her
performance in that film made her won China's Best Actress award. She resulted in the Chinese press dubbing her "The
Elizabeth Taylor of China”, that is why her name became popular. Chen's acting career actually started in her teens. In 1981,
Chen got her education at e University of New York at New Paltz, and then at California
State University at Northridge. In 1986, Chen got succession through small
parts in movies and TV. In that year, a Hollywood producer Dino De Laurentis took
her in the parking lot of Lorimar Studios to give her a role in Tai-Pan. And the film bombed.
The next Chen’s film was The Last Emperor
(1987) which won critical acclaim. Then she appeared in TV series Twin Peaks
(1990) which became her best role in the West
and rose up her name to famous. She was stopped from acting a few years take
care her children, and she still wants to back to acting as what she said in
2008. Together with Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi, Chen ready to compete with Hollywood artists from America.
