Maggie Smith is a British
actress. She has won the Academy Award and Emmy Award twice. Maggie is famous through
her role as Minerva McGonagall in the Harry
Potter sequel. She was born in Ilford, Essex, England, December 28, 1934 with
the name of Dame Margaret Natalie Smith.
Maggie has been twice
married. Her first husband was actor Robert Stephens (1967-1974). She was
blessed with two children who they are also actor named Chris Larkin (born 1967)
and Toby Stephens (born 1969). She then married a writer, Beverley Cross
(1975-1998).
Maggie’s career in
film was since 1962. She began her role through theatrical performances. She
had become an idol in the Royal National Theatre
in the 1960's to serve as Desdemona in Othello show titled. After that she
starred in many successful movies such as, Travels with My Aunt (1972), The
Missionary (1982), A Room With A View (1985), The Lonely Passion Of Judith
Hearne (1987), Sister Act (1992), Richard III (1995), Gosford Park (2001) and
Ladies In Lavender (2004).
For her achievements
in the acting, Maggie won an Academy Award category Best
Actress in the film Othello (1965), Academy Award category Best Supporting Actress in the movie California Suite
(1978).
