Martina Hingis is a Swiss tennis player who is said as
a professional player. But, she retired from the
tournaments. Hingis was born in Kosice, Slovakia, on September 30, 1980. And in
the late of 1990s she was the top women’s tennis player
internationally.
Hingis started her tennis career at
fifteen by the time she became the youngest Grand Slam
champion of all time after her victory in the Australia Open in 1997. That
is why she became the youngest player world no.1 replaced Steffi Graf. She is
the winner of twice Wimbledon double title in 1996 and in 1998. It can be said
that she won doubles titles in 1997, 1998, and 1999 (including Australia Open),
the USA Open in 1998, and French Open in 1998 and 2000. Unfortunately, in 2003
she got injury that forces her to stop to play for a while. But finally in the
early 2006 she returned to the competition and that was good for her due to she
got victory of the Australia Open mixed doubles title (with Mahesh Bhupathi)
and so did in the Italian Open. In the same year, she awarded with Laureus World Sports Award.
Hingis retired her tennis career due to
her ankle injuries in 2007 and she found in a cocaine scandal which cut her
career shortly. And in the next year, 2008, she was banned from tennis for two
years. In December 10, 2010, she was married to Thibault Hutin, an equestrian athlete
from France. And the latest news about her in this 2012 is that Roger Federer attempted
to persuade Hingis to join again in the Olympic but she refused.
