Dian Fossey was an expert
in zoology and ethology of family studied gorillas in Rwanda. She was
born in San Francisco, United States January 16, 1932. Since childhood she was
fond of animals. After graduating from high school, Fossey learn basic
veterinary medicine at the University of California. But because she had
trouble with chemistry and physics, she finally majored ergotherapy at San Jose State University. After
graduation she worked as a therapist in Louisville, Kentucky. This is where her
research career as a researcher began.

Fossey wanted to be a researcher who interested in reading the book George
Schaller about the mountain gorillas. In the end of 1966 she went to the Congo
to study gorillas. But not long after she was forced to move to Rwanda because
there is rebellion in the Congo. Fossey established the center of the Karisoke
investigation; she studied gorillas for 18 years. In Rwanda it has a special
relationship with a gorilla named Digit. However Digit killed by poachers in
1978.
Fossey became famous
when her picture appeared along with gorillas in National
Geographic Magazine in 1970. She returned to America in 1974 to take the
title of doctor and get donations for the investigation of gorillas. After that
she returned to Rwanda again. Fossey died on December 26, 1985. She was found
murdered in her home. She was buried beside her beloved gorilla, Digit.
