Florence
Nightingale is a pioneer of modern nursing, a writer and statistical experts.
She was born in Florence, Italy May 12, 1820. Her name is taken from her
hometown. Her first name comes from Firenze (Italian) to Florence (United
Kingdom language). Her father William Nightingale was a wealthy landowner in
Derbyshire, London, England. Her mother was a descendant of nobility. Florence
had a sister named Parthenope. Adulthood when she's prettier than her sister so
it gets a lot of applications to marry Richard Monckton Milnes, including a
poet and aristocrat (Baron Of Houghton), but all she refused because she was
determined to devote himself to the world of nursing.

At that time, nurses
in the UK considered a lowly job and the hospital is a dirty place, so her wish
was opposed by her mother and brother. But she insisted the heart and keeps
going to Kaiserswerth, Germany in 1846 to receive training with the nuns there.
She also worked in hospitals in France to serve the poor. She returned to
England on August 12, 1853 and got a job as supervisor of nursing at the
Institute For The Care Of Sick
Gentlewomen, a small hospital located in Upper Harley Street, London. She is a kindhearted nurse.
In 1854 occurred the
war between Britain and France against Russia in the Crimean Peninsula. Many
soldiers are killed but more depressing is no treatment for the wounded and
sick soldiers. After the journalist William Russell wrote about the condition
of the wounded soldier with no treatment and no women who serve in humanitarian
work, Florence wrote a letter to Information Minister Sidney Herbert to become
a volunteer. On October 21, 1854, he and 38 girls are trained volunteers,
including her aunt Mai Smith left for Turkey. As a good
nurse, she cannot stay quietly.
November 1854 she was at Florence to the edge of the beach
at Scutari hospital. Apparently there is more dire circumstances, the room was
crowded, many soldiers were lying in the yard without shelter and without
treatment. Many pieces of the human body and causing blood mount a bad smell.
After being shown around by the head of the Hospital Doctors Mayor Prince,
Florence make important changes, such as set a bed in the hospital and set up

traveled at night with a light to search for soldiers who are still alive.
Florence returned to
England on August 7, 1857, when she was known as a hero on the battlefield. He
then moved from his family home to the Burlington Hotel in Piccadilly. She
suffered "Crimean fever" of the Crimean War but did not make the
spirit is reduced to contribute to the world of nursing. Florence founded the
nursing school's first women-only. Its location is in the Hospital of St. Thomas in
London. Now the school was named after Florence
Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Florence wrote the
1860 book Notes on Nursing, and the year 1861 book Notes on Nursing plus about
baby care, 1869, Florence and Elizabeth Blackwell founded the Women's Medical University. Florence in 1883 was
awarded The Royal Red Cross medal by Queen Victoria.
Florence became the first woman to receive the decoration The Order Of Merit
from the King of England in 1907. She was also awarded Honory Freedom Of The
City of London in 1908. Florence Nightingale died at the age of 90 years on
August 13, 1910. She is buried in the Church St. Margaret, East Wellow,
