Chen Chong is an actress,
producer and director
of the Chinese nationality. She was born in Shanghai, China, 26 April 1961 with
the full name Joan Chen Chong. Chen met with Mao Zedong's wife, Jiang Qing at
the age of 14 years. She was later educated at the shooting academy. When Chen
was 20 years old she moved to America to study filmmaking at California State University,
Northridge.

Chen married to actor
Jimmy Lau in 1985 and divorced in 1990. Then she married again with Peter Hui on
January 18, 1992. From her second marriage she had two daughters.
Chen career in acting began in 1975 when Chen was elected
as the actor Training Program by the Shanghai Film Studio. After that she
starred in her first film titled Youth (1977). Chen became the most popular
actress after starring in her second film titled Little Flower (1979). Time
magazine even gave her the nickname “Elizabeth Taylor
of China". While studying in America, she also continued her career in acting. Her first Hollywood
film she starred was Tai-Pan (1986).
Then Chen starred in
several films include The Last Emperor (1987), The Blood Heroes (1989), Heaven
& Earth (1993), Temptation Of A Monk (1993) and Red Rose, and, White Rose
(1994). She has won numerous awards including the Golden
Horse Award and Hong Kong Film Critics Society
Award.
